Are you missing out on that round of golf, kayaking, or a stroll through your favorite park? Are the botanical gardens or beaches calling, but you just can’t get there? Or perhaps you’re missing out on the vibrant arts scene, unable to catch that new play, a concert, the opera, or that new restaurant that’s gotten rave reviews. With so much Sarasota has to offer, isn’t it time you make an appointment with a Functional Transformation Mobile Rehab certified lymphedema therapist to manage your lymphedema and get back to living life in Sarasota style?
Lymphedema, a build-up of fluid, usually in the arms or legs, which causes swelling, can slow wound healing, and raise your risk of infection. If you have lymphedema, we recognize how uncomfortable and limiting it can be and how it can restrict your quality of life. At Functional Transformation Mobile Rehab, we have specially trained therapists with intensive training in Lymphedema treatment who come to your home, assess your lymphedema, and provide therapy so you can easily manage it and return to the quality of life you’re missing.

As you may know, currently, lymphedema has no cure. It is a condition that requires managing the rest of your life. Living successfully with lymphedema depends on you and people who help care for you.
The goal of our therapy is reducing your swelling and maintaining a reduction of fluid volume. Functional Transformation Mobile Rehab achieves this with a tailored therapy strategy and schedule we plan with you in the comfort of your home. From our experience, when we come to our patients’ homes, we find our patients and their caregivers see faster improvement and gain a better understanding of how to control their Lymphedema so they can live to their fullest and enjoy the richness that the Sarasota area has to offer.
Your Treatment
If you have developed lymphedema, we use what is often referred to as the “gold standard” treatment: a combination of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), manual, gentle lymph drainage massage, compression bandaging, and skin care
Manual lymph drainage (MLD): This gentle, manual treatment technique redirects the lymph fluid from the swollen limb toward your fully functioning lymph nodes.
Compression bandaging: A series of short stretch bandages and an assortment of padding used to prevent fluid from reaccumulating in your limb. It also softens any hard or “fibrotic” tissue in the limb. Once your limb’s maximum fluid reduction is achieved, you then wear a compression sleeve daily. If your lymphedema is more complex, we may require you to wear a special nighttime garment.
Exercise: While bandaged, we give you flexing exercises. This helps your muscles “pump” the fluid from your swollen limb, making the bandaging more effective.
Skin care: The skin of a swollen limb is often dry, weak, and more susceptible to infection. Educating you about proper skin care is an important part of our service.
Once your swelling is reduced, we ensure you are fitted correctly for the compression garment you will wear to minimize the chance of reoccurrence.

Q: Considering my garments, when can I shower?
A: You can take your garments off one hour before the therapists visit and shower.
Q: How often will you have to come to my house?
A: Frequency is different for each person. It can range from daily to weekly depending on your needs.
Q: Are there things I need to do at home to help?
A: Yes, at home care is essential to your health. Skin care is very important. Using low ph soaps and lotions will help keep your skin healthy and reduce the risk of infection. Exercises like walking, ankle pumps, self manual lymph drainage, self wrapping, and (most importantly) deep breathing exercises are tremendously helpful. Your therapist is only at your home for a tiny fraction of your day. What you do when we’re not there can mean huge differences in positive or negative outcomes in your lymphedema management.
